Saudi Arabia – Journey to Medina and Makkah
My family and I had the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia twice for Umrah during the Summer 2012 and Winter of 2013. Umrah is different than the obligatory Hajj, which is one of the five pillars of Islam. My parents did go to Hajj in 1998. Anyway, our plan was the same for both years. After arriving at King Abdulaziz airport, a driver with a Range Rover drove us from the airport to Al Medina. The drivers there have a bad reputation of reckless driving. They never go below 100 mph when they are at the highway. After arriving safely to Madina, we check-in at Shaza Al Madina Hotel for a couple of days before returning to Mecca to perform our non-obligatory Umrah. I noticed that staying at Medina was more quiet and relaxing than Mecca. The people in Medina were more friendly too. I try my best to finish the entire Quran during my trip.
