Ramadan in Prestonsburg 2016
|Breaking our fast upstairs in the mosque. – Iftar|
Our community had a great and blessed Ramadan this year! The month of Ramadan is very special for me because it’s a time where I get more closer to God, see my community more often, and get to eat lots of delicious food. We gather during Tarawih prayer, potluck events, and Friday Prayer. An Imam came from Syria to recite the entire Quran for us during Tarawih. Potlucks are organized in the Masjid every Saturday. Usually, the women eat at the school, and the men eat at the mosque. The men and women ate at the school on the third week since the food was cooked in the new kitchen. Some Christians like to come and eat with us too. During the last ten days of Ramadan, some people like to do I’tikaf at the Mosque where they spend extra time to worship.
Finally, we celebrate Eid Al-Fitr after Ramadan. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the Eid Al-Fitr with my community in Prestonsburg this year.
